Learn to Play Blues Harp Harmonica
Hohner Marine Band VS Hohner Blues Harp?

I play a Hohner blues harp MS, in the key of c, everybody else I kinow plays Hohner Marine Band and every harmonica book I have recommends the Marine Band and Special 20 key of C, is it better than the blues harp?? Thanks 🙂

The Marine Band is what a lot of the old blues guys used to play so it has a lot of respect. Just find something that plays and sounds the way you like. I almost have a different type of Hohner harp for each key (and a couple o’ Lee Oskars in there too)- each gives a totally different feel. Have fun.

I prefer Special 20s myself. Most players use Marine Bands or Special 20s and most instructional materials specify Marine Bands. To be honest, much of the bad rap Blues Harps get is leftover from a completely different harp (also called the Blues Band) that Hohner quit making in the 80s or 90s. They have the same reed plates and pear wood combs as Marine Bands. I don’t like wood combs, which is why I play the Special 20s.

The blues harps bend easier, the marine bands are good over all.
